Abstract
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) has become a powerful tool for researchers and engineers for a wide range of applications. CFD allows for the systematic analysis and optimization of the fluid flow field without the need for interfering with the flow itself, which is not always possible with conventional experimental techniques. CFD also allows the virtual/digital observation of flow variables at locations that may not be accessible to measuring instruments. With the increasing computing power and availability of complex physical models and numerical and discretization techniques, CFD is nowadays a highly essential tool in the investigation of fluid flow problems.
This talk presents an overview on the various applications of Computational Fluid Dynamics, such as, in the areas of energy efficiency, sustainability, weather resilience, environmental hazards, chemical processes, engineering design and biomedical engineering applications. Particular attention is given to engineering design and simulation, in general, to discuss how having a competency in engineering design and simulation can help support the Philippine economy. The talk ends with a recommendation on how we can develop a competency in engineering simulation to be able to support the sustainability, circularity and Industry 4.0 initiatives in the Philippines.
