Abstract
Volume holographic recording and reconstruction of plane waves with various polarization states are implemented with a photorefractive material, 0.05% Fe:LiNbo3.
The theoretical framework captures the experimental results. The highest diffraction efficiencies of the reconstructed holograms are measured using horizontal and diagonal polarization states.
Statistical analyses show significant differences in the diffraction efficiencies of the reconstructed linear and circular polarization states using different polarization states as readout beams. Reconstruction by horizontal and diagonal polarization states indicate no difference in the diffraction efficiencies for recorded circular polarization states.
Changes in polarizations are observed in the reconstruction of linear polarization states. The readout horizontal and vertical polarization states are rotated by 10 degrees clockwise and 47.70 counterclockwise, respectively. A change in the circular, horizontal, and vertical polarization states when reconstructing a circular polarization state by a rotation of 40 degrees are also observed.
To further investigate the rotation of the polarization states for readout beams, the molecular structure and the crystal structure can be studied in terms of polarization behavior. This work provides further evidence of photorefractive materials as effective media for various applications.
