ASOG Brown Bag Session: Toward Increased and Stable Investments in National Security in the Philippines: An Analysis of Trends, Allocations, and Policy Options in Philippine Defense Spending
The Ateneo School of Government, through the Ateneo Policy Center, will hold a brown bag session on 20 April 2023 to present the study titled, “Toward Increased and Stable Investments in National Security in the Philippines: An Analysis of Trends, Allocations, and Policy Options in Philippine Defense Spending.”
RADM. Rommel Jude Ong PN (Ret.), Senior Research Fellow at the Ateneo School of Government, Prof. Heidi Mendoza, Professor of Praxis at Ateneo School of Government, and Commodore Jay Tristan Tarriela PCG, PhD, of the Philippine Coast Guard will lead the session on Thursday from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM.
The session will broach topics on characterizing defense budget utilization in the Philippines, looking at factors affecting defense resource allocation and the ability of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to address national security challenges, and scrutinizing recurring financial management issues affecting defense spending.
Part of the discussion aims to provide solutions and recommendations for ensuring increased and stable national security investments in organizational development, bureaucratic behavior changes, and legal reforms.
