AIS Laudato Si’ Week Celebration
12 November 2022 marked the start of the first year of the Ateneo de Manila University's seven-year journey to becoming a Laudato Si' university. Mid-way through this first year, the The Ateneo Institute of Sustainability (AIS) celebrates Laudato Si' Week 2023 with a diverse menu of onsite activities anchored on the theme: Hope for the Earth. Hope for humanity. Each activity is co-developed and implemented with University partners, highlighting the collaborative nature of the sustainability journey. This is particularly meaningful as AIS celebrates its 10th anniversary this year.

Monday, 22 May
On Monday, 22 May, an Arboretum Care event will kickstart the weeklong celebration, and will also serve as a celebration of the International Day of Biological Diversity. AIS, in partnership with the Ateneo Wild and the Biodiversity Laboratory will introduce participants to the flora at the university’s Arboretum of Threatened Philippine Trees, and how to care for them. This will be from 7:00 to 9:00 am, with the meetup venue at Eliazo Hall Driveway.

This will be followed by the Biodiversity Lab Open House and Workshop, from 9:30 to 11:00 am, at CTC 414. Scientists and researchers will showcase their extensive specimen collection and will lead a hands-on activity on insect identification.
These events are open to the Ateneo community. Interested participants may register at https://bit.ly/AIS22May.

These events align with Laudato Si’ Goals 1 (Response to the Cry of the Earth) and 5 (Ecological Education).
Tuesday, 23 May
On Tuesday, 23 May, the My Climate Risk – Ateneo de Manila University (MCR-ADMU) Regional Hub will co-host the MCR Brown Bag Session: "Research as Care," in partnership with the Ateneo Research Institute of Science and Engineering (ARISE). This event will be an interdisciplinary discussion and aims to reflect on what it means for climate research to be people-centered and a form of care, to identify case studies or previous experiences that may be considered as “research as care,” and to discern people-centered approaches and methods in climate research. This will be from 3:00 to 5:00 pm, at Faber Hall 302.
The event is open to colleagues from the global MCR hubs through Zoom. Part of the program will also be open to the Ateneo community onsite, but slots are limited. Interested members of the Ateneo community may register at https://bit.ly/AIS23May. Deadline for onsite registration is 19 May 2023.

This event aligns with Laudato Si’ Goals 1 (Response to the Cry of the Earth) and 2 (Response to the Cry of the Poor).
Wednesday, 24 May
On Wednesday, 24 May, the Ateneo Wild will take participants on a guided walk around the different mini-ecosystems on campus from 3:30 to 5:30 pm, with the meetup venue at Gonzaga Parking Lot. Aside from the sense of sight, the walk will also offer opportunities to engage our sense of hearing, touch, smell, and even taste! This sensory experience hopes to deepen the community's contact with nature and appreciation for urban biodiversity and green spaces.
This event is open to the Ateneo community, but slots are limited. Interested participants may register at https://bit.ly/AIS24May.

This event aligns with Laudato Si’ Goals 1 (Response to the Cry of the Earth) and 5 (Ecological Education).
