Developing Performance-Based Tasks: Techniques and Tools for Today's Teachers


 
Abstract:

Performance-Based Tasks (PBTs) has become a vital part of English classrooms in the Philippines since the Department of Education released its Policy Guidelines on Classroom Assessment for the K to 12 Basic Education Program in 2015.  However, the reality is, designing effective PBTs may be challenging to many teachers.  What exactly is a “Performance”-Based Task?   How can they be designed to fit various classroom contexts such as course objectives, varied student proficiencies, class size, and time allotment?  How does a teacher assess or grade PBTs to ensure fairness?  Finally, how can the design be revised to fit the online context?
