Dr. Anna Marie Karaos was born in Manila on December 20, 1957. She attended elementary and high school in St. Theresa’s College in Quezon City, and graduated in 1979 from the Ateneo de Manila University with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Management Engineering, summa cum laude. She received her M.Phil in Economics and Politics of Development from Cambridge Univeristy in 1984, and her Ph.D in Sociology from the New School for Social Research in 1995. She currently works with the John J. Carroll Institute on Church and Social Issues, where she is head of the Urban Poverty and Governance Program.

Areas of Specialization: 

Specializes in urban sociology, urbanization, urban poverty, low-income housing, resettlement, local governance, social movements, and social change and development.
