PHILIPPINES — The National Privacy Commission (NPC) is creating a new working group under the Global Privacy Assembly (GPA), tasked with gathering and promote data-sharing best practices. In a statement, the NPC says these practices would guide governments and regulators towards economic recovery and underlines the need for the different stakeholders to be vigilant against data sharing abuse. HONG KONG — Critics raise security concerns as several universities install more CCTV cameras in line with the rollout of the territory’s new national security law. Students may now be monitored while lectures about the law take place. NEWS | DFA's online passport tracker taken down after possible data leak

PHILIPPINES — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA)’s online passport tracker was taken down after a "data privacy issue" involving the platform was discovered. While investigation is still ongoing, the DFA says it is already taking appropriate measures to secure the data that may have been exposed. They include applicants’ names, passport numbers, email addresses, and mobile numbers. READ MORE
NEWS | Children's Disability Service for exposing confidential information of 9,000 children

UNITED STATES — Manitoba’s Children’s Disability Services has been sued for exposing confidential information of about 9,000 children with disabilities. The information was compromised when a Children’s Disability Services staff accidentally sent an email intended for the Manitoba children's advocate to about 100 agencies and advocacy groups. While the file involved was password-protected, the password was also included in the email. READ MORE

UNITED STATES — Confidential records of Old Pulaski Middle School parents, students, and staff were left exposed on the floor of the school when it was turned over to the Pulaski County. The documents contained names, addresses, birth dates, social security numbers, as well as other sensitive information. It remains unclear how and why the documents were left behind. READ MORE
