FASSSTER wins Outstanding Research and Development Award

The School of Science and Engineering(SOSE)’s FASSSTER team received the Outstanding Research and Development Award in the Health Category at the Science for the People (SFTP) Awards held during the 64th Anniversary of the Department of Science and Technology on 13 June 2022 at Sofitel, Manila.
“FASSSTER for COVID-19: Feasibility Analysis of Syndromic Surveillance using Spatio-temporal Epidemiological Modeler for LGUs” was recognized for its outstanding contribution to advancing Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) in the country for sustained economic progress of the Filipino people.

FASSSTER is a cloud-based disease surveillance and scenario-based disease modeling tool that was developed and operationalized for the management of the COVID-19 pandemic by Philippine national and local government agencies. The project is headed by Project Lead Dr Reena Estuar (Department of Information Sytems and Computer Science) and Mathematical Modeler Lead Dr Elvie de Lara-Tuprio (Mathematics) of SOSE, working with a DOH team led by Dr Alethea de Guzman.
FASSSTER analytics and models continue to be used by national and local governments as a data-driven decision-making tool for COVID-19 related policies and planning.
