An Orientation Day for the Young Innovators Leadership Program 2022 Cohort

15 Jun 2022

The Ateneo Intellectual Property Office (AIPO) held an Orientation Day for their 2022 cohort of the Young Innovators Leadership Program (YILP) last June 13, 2022 from 2:30 to 4:00 PM (GMT+8) via Zoom. This year, there were (21) twenty one successful applicants who managed to secure a slot as YILP intern.

YILP is a 10-month, extracurricular program that provides plenty of experience-based learning opportunities particularly on how to develop human-centric solutions to real-world problems, how to search, draft and file patents to protect these solutions, and eventually make successful enterprises out of these.

The Orientation Day was hosted by AIPO Research Officer, Ms Elaine Palor and the main speaker was AIPO Director, Dr Jon Fernandez, who talked about the roles of what the interns will be taking and what was expected of them.

The interns were grouped into multidisciplinary teams of 4-5 members, where each will have some leadership roles at various times during the internship. The grouping system was announced by the AIPO Head of Ideation Support, Mr Steve Chaves. This was followed by a short breakout session so the interns could introduce themselves to each other, and finally, the day ended with a game of “Kahoot!”, led by Ms Mariela Alcaparas, where intern, Lenz Dagohoy, emerged as the top scorer.

As a welcome token, freebies were given to all the interns with the option for door-to-door delivery or self pick-up at the office.

Starting next week, June 20, 2022, they will undergo a Leadership 101 and Team Building session with Mr George “GQ” Quitoriano, followed by a module cluster on Design Thinking in July 2022.

Exciting times lie ahead for AIPO’s interns as they grow their IP and leadership skills to challenge themselves and emerge triumphant in the innovation ecosystem.
