LS students honored for their leadership and service

23 Jun 2022

The Loyola Schools honored students for their leadership excellence and service to others during the annual Paghahandog: A Celebration of Student Leadership and Service on 20 June 2022. Held at Escaler Hall, several sets of awards were given: the Guidon-Moro Lorenzo Awards for Sports, Loyola Schools Awards for Leadership and Service, and the Ateneo Socio-Civic Engagement for National Development (ASCEND) Awards.

In her opening remarks, Dr Maria Luz Vilches, Vice President for the Loyola Schools, lauded all the finalists for their excellence and ability to share their knowledge, skills, and expertise with a greater community.

“You did not allow darkness to cover your light. You did not allow hardships to make you cower in hopelessness. You did not allow uncertainties to dissuade you from staying the course; wielding perseverance so that others will also find their bearings well,” she said. “I would like to invite you to continue to live the spirit of teamwork and genuine service that allows everyone to own the victory that has been achieved and move the focus from self to other.”

University President Fr Roberto C Yap SJ also commended the students, extending his heartiest congratulations to all the nominees and awardees.

“Each set of awards represents the unique hallmarks of an Ateneo education— a well-rounded learning and formation that prepares you for whatever comes your way after graduation but an education that prepares you to be of service to others.”

He added,” You all have shown what an Ateneo can do even in the midst of a crisis, and you have emerged triumphant; you represent a more hopeful future for the nation.”
