Last 4 July 2022, members of the Loyola Schools student activities community composed of both outgoing and incoming organization presidents, moderators, and university administrators gathered at the Leong Hall Auditorium for Hinirang 2022: The Student Leaders’ Send-Off and Induction Ceremony. In recognition of the resounding call to enact positive change that is grounded in love and creatively reimagines our response to the education, health, and political crisis we continue to face, the specific theme for this year’s program was: “Mga Hinirang na Tumindig at Tumugon sa gitna ng Mapanghamong Panahon.”
The program started with the singing of the national anthem led by Carissa Balagtas, president of the Ateneo College Glee Club for SY 2022-2023, followed by the invocation through a contemporary performance by the Company of Ateneo Dancers. During her opening remarks, Dr Maria Luz C Vilches, Vice President for the Loyola Schools, invited our student leaders to allow themselves to be shaped by both the joys and challenges of their roles so they may discover for themselves the many wonders that will unfold before them. Mr. Rizalino Rivera, Vice President for Mission Integration, also emphasized in his message that leadership is not about living a life of privilege but rather living a life of service.
The recognition of outgoing and incoming student leaders, led by Mr. Ralph Jacinto Quiblat, Director of the Loyola Schools Office of Student Activities, served as the main event of the evening. Heads of the 56 accredited organizations, confederation of publications, Sanggunian, and the Council of Organizations of the Ateneo - Manila (COA-M) were called to the stage as the outgoing student leaders clothed their blue and white sash to their successors as a symbolic gesture of their transition. Afterwards, Yzabel Angelica Pinera, outgoing president of COA-M, and Tristan Joseph Alcantara, new Sanggunian president, led the oath-taking of outgoing and incoming student leaders, respectively.
The program capped off with a message from our university president, Fr Roberto C Yap SJ. Fr Bobby expressed his deep gratitude to our student leaders who reminded him of his own student leadership journey in Ateneo back when he was still president of the Ateneo Christian Life Community. He thanked the community for demonstrating how student leadership and service is still very much alive in the Ateneo. Trish Binobo and Kax Torrefiel from the Ateneo Blue Repertory then led the singing of the university hymn as the night ended with a simple dinner reception at the Ubuntu Space, Arete.
