The Department of Electronics, Computer and Communications Engineering (ECCE), in collaboration with the Mechatronics and Robotics Society of the Philippines (MRSP) NCR Chapter conducted an online learning outreach to San Pablo City, Laguna last 15 October 2022 via Zoom. The beneficiaries were grade 10 students of San Pablo City Integrated High School (SPCIHS), headed by its principal, Lina M. Laguras, EdD.
One of the three main speakers was Engr. Paul Ryan Santiago, a faculty member of the ECCE department and a researcher at the Ateneo Innovation Center (AIC). He shared to the students the concepts behind TinyML, which implements machine learning on small, low-powered computing devices, and its various applications that include high school science projects. Senior computer engineering student Joshua Manuel Louise Kempis served as the master of ceremonies who kept the high school students engaged during the program. Dr. King Harold A. Recto, also an ECCE department faculty member and secretary of the MRSP NCR Chapter, on the other hand, served as program coordinator for the said outreach.
Other collaborators in the outreach were faculty members from Far Eastern University (FEU) Institute of Technology and the University of the East. It was attended by over 50 participants. Ms. Kathy Bo P. Ronabio, faculty member of SPCIHS who coordinated on behalf of the high school said this after the event: “We are grateful to be part of your program. We hope for more partnerships with you. Thank you for administering this kind of webinar to enlighten our students’ minds and to boost their interest and skills.”
