Ateneo de Manila University is still among Asia's top universities, according to the 2023 Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Asia University Rankings.
Ateneo is ranked 134 in Asia overall, and 26 in Southeast Asia, according to QS's latest institutional rankings released on Tuesday, 8 November 2022.
The University continues to be the top-ranked Philippine private higher education institution. This year, 16 out of 760 listed institutions are from the Philippines.
“The latest QS Asia University rankings -- which follows the 2023 QS World Rankings in June and last month's 2023 THE World University Rankings -- again affirms Ateneo's continued push to engage with the nation and the world, as outlined in our Lux in Domino 2030 University Strategic Plan,” said Fr Roberto Yap SJ, University President.
The rankings are determined similarly to the 2023 QS World University Rankings, earlier released in June this year, "but with some additional indicators and adapted weightings" according to the organization.
"This set of criteria, developed in consultation with regional experts and stakeholders, is designed to reflect key priorities for universities in Asia, drawing on as much available data as possible," QS added.
"Key indicators used to formulate this year’s rankings include academic and employer reputations, the number of staff holding a PhD, and the percentage of international students," QS said.
Ateneo had an overall score of 34.7, based on QS data. The full scores can be accessed at the QS website.
Back in June, Ateneo was ranked in the 651-700 bracket in the 2023 QS World University rankings.
“As we always say, rankings or not, we will continue with our tradition of Ateneo education and formation, so that our academic community continues to make a positive impact on society,” Yap added.
The QS University Rankings is released annually by the UK-based higher education analysis company Quacquarelli Symonds. The Asia University Rankings has been published since 2009.
Ateneo also consistently ranks in the QS global subject rankings. In the 2022 edition, Ateneo is the top Philippine school for language studies, and is also ranked in business and management, arts and humanities, and social sciences.
