The Federation of Ateneo Management Engineers (FAME) has launched a new scholarship for BS ME majors in honor of Professor Emeritus Mari-Jo P. Ruiz, Ph.D. Established by pooling various FAME Scholarship Funds donated by BS Management Engineering Alumni, the Dr. Mari-Jo P. Ruiz - FAME Scholarship Endowment aims to help BS ME scholars to finish their education throughout their four or five years of stay in the Loyola Schools.

This scholarship endowment was officially launched during the reunion of FAME alumni last November 12, 2022 at Leong Hall Auditorium.

Dr. Mari-Jo joined the Ateneo community in 1965 and completed her doctoral degree in Mathematics from the same institution in 1981. In her many years in the Ateneo, she had worn many hats as a professor, the Department Chair of Mathematics and Management Engineering, the Dean of School of Arts and Sciences, and a Trustee of the university for three terms.

She has since become an integral part of the institution until her retirement in 2009, and even beyond it as she was conferred the title of Professor Emeritus by the Ateneo de Manila University. Today, Dr. Mari-Jo continues her vocation of teaching as an active member of the Mathematics and Quantitative Methods & Information Technology (QMIT) Departments.

FAME, under the leadership of Dr. Ruiz and in support of the Ateneo’s 500@150 Sesquicentennial Scholarship Campaign in 2009, initiated their own ME@40 Scholarship Campaign to raise funds to support BS ME Scholars when they celebrated their 40th year in 2009. Since its inception, they have established a total of 13 full endowment funds and 6 Scholarship Awards with a total principal donation of P63 million from some 300 Management Engineering graduates of the Ateneo de Manila. To date, 57 scholars supported by the program have graduated.

The Dr. Mari-Jo Ruiz - FAME Scholarship Endowment is the 14th scholarship endowment under FAME.
