27 Nov 2022 | Robert Alfie S. Peña
Dr. King Harold A. Recto, PECE, assistant professor of the Department of Electronics, Computer, and Communications Engineering (ECCE), was recently conferred the title ASEAN Engineer (ASEAN Eng.) by the ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisations (AFEO) through the Philippine Technological Council (PTC) in ceremonies held at Ang Bahay ng Alumni, University of the Philippines Diliman campus last 19 November 2022.
The award of the ASEAN Eng. status recognizes the independent practice, professional engineering experience, significant engineering work, continuing professional development, and adherence to established code of professional conduct of an Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member state engineer as having satisfied the qualification requirements of AFEO. For electronics engineering, application, initial assessment, and evaluation are coursed through the Institute of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines (IECEP), which is the national professional organization. PTC, being the umbrella organization of the national professional engineering organizations, then conducts the final assessment and evaluation before the final approval by the governing board of AFEO with secretariat in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia.
Now an ASEAN Eng., Dr. Recto will be on the ASEAN Engineering Register (AER), which spearheads the mobility of engineers in ASEAN. The purpose of the register is for the liberalization of professional engineering services within ASEAN in preparation for a more globalized region.
