AIS director wins Outstanding Reviewer award at Emerald Literati Awards 2022

Dr. Charlotte Kendra Gotangco Gonzales, Director of the Ateneo Institute of Sustainability, was recognized as an Outstanding Reviewer at the Emerald Literati Awards 2022 for the reviews she wrote during the previous year for the International Journal of Disaster Resilience in the Built Environment. Criteria for the award included timeliness, quality, and depth of the reviews submitted.
At the awarding ceremony, Fr Roberto Yap SJ acknowledged the important role of reviewers in the research process, emphasizing that the "path to discovery and innovation is incomplete without a reviewer" because it is the reviewer who "thoroughly examines the manuscript to check its readability, scope, methodology, originality, research integrity, and ethics" before it can be published.
In her response, Gotangco Gonzales admitted that reviewing manuscripts for her has largely been "a matter of karma" and that as unscientific as it may sound, conducting journal reviews is her way of "sending 'good vibes' out in the 'research universe,'" in the hope that when her manuscript finds itself on the desk of potential reviewers, they might similarly consider providing useful feedback.
She also thanked the Rizal Library for providing access to journals and other cutting-edge research resources; the Office of the Associate Dean for Research and Creative Work, the School of Science and Engineering and its research institute ARISE, and the Environmental Science Department for promoting a research culture; and the Office of International Relations for facilitating communication with foreign journals and their editors and researchers.
