Around 50 kids from KKM Bahay Bulilit Child Care Center in Lingap Katarungan Center, Barangay Addition Hills, Mandaluyong City received christmas gifts from the Ateneo Human Rights Center’s (AHRC) Adhikain Para sa Karapatang Pambata desk (AKAP) interns, the Ateneo Law School Student Council (ALS-SC), and Siklab ng Kabataang Pinoy (SIKAP) in an outreach program held on December 16, Friday.
A donation drive was recently launched to raise funds for the gift-giving activity. Various individuals and groups generously responded to the call for donations which led to a total collection of twenty six thousand pesos. Zonta Club of Metro Ortigas, Inc. was among the top donors and helped make the event possible.
The Christmas gift package comprised educational books, jumbo crayons, stickers, and meals for the children.
AKAP Director, Claire Laison, expressed her gratitude on behalf of the organizing team to the donors and sponsors that made the event successful.
“We are very grateful to all our partners and donors who did not hesitate to help us pull off this event. The smiles and joy of the kids at the Lingap Katarungan Center earlier today were strong indicators that they were genuinely happy and that all the monetary support was worth it. We also express our sincerest gratitude to the teachers of the daycare center who extended their help,” Laison shared.
As the child rights desk of the Ateneo Human Rights Center, AKAP vows to continue its commitment to promote and protect children’s rights. It also looks forward to more child-friendly activities with its partner institutions in the near future.
