ASOG Prof. Imelda Deinla Publishes Article on ASEAN Charter

06 Jan 2023

Partnerships for the Goals

In Counterpoint Southeast Asia, Ateneo School of Government Associate Professor Dr. Imelda B. Deinla called for a reevaluation of the scope of the ASEAN charter and recommended change in habits and practices among ASEAN member states for decisive collective action. For Dr. Deinla,  “Informal rules and institutions, while giving flexibility and due consideration to the diversity among members, could also be frustrating the growth of ASEAN and its institutions. To instil confidence in ASEAN’s institutions, ASEAN leaders should allow them more autonomy and decision.” Counterpoint Southeast Asia is published by the Centre on Asia and Globalisation, Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, Singapore.
