The journey of mathlete Paco Javier (6-Bellarmine) through three rounds of the Asian Science & Mathematics Olympiad for Primary and Secondary Schools (ASMOPSS) culminated with a gold medal in the competition’s final international round held from November 23 - 27, 2022, in Bali, Indonesia. There, Paco bagged the Philippines’ only gold medal in the individual category, while also emerging as the 2nd runner up in the team category with fellow Filipino mathletes.
Prior to his golden finish for the Philippines in the international round, Paco secured a silver medal in the ASMOPSS qualifying round held online on September 24 - 25, and another silver in the national round held online on October 23, 2022. In both rounds, Paco competed in the primary math division.
Launched in Indonesia by the Surya Institute in 2011, ASMOPSS is an international Olympiad that encourages young students to embrace science and math from an early age. A fun and friendly competition, ASMOPSS also enhances the development of international contacts amongst countries within the Asian region, particularly in the fields of primary school science and mathematics education.
