LS students support ACED partner schools
25 Jan 2023
Two sets of Loyola Schools students provided support to Holy Spirit Elementary School (HSES) and Judge Feliciano Belmonte Sr. High School (JFBSHS) during School Year 2021 to 2022. HSES and JFBSHS are partner schools of ACED for their Food Packs Program.
Ateneo Gabay group partnered with ACED to implement two projects for HSES and JFBSHS beneficiaries in the school year 2021-2022: 1) Share-ya and 2) Erya Hotline.
Share-ya was a revenue-generating project done in collaboration with the Education Operations Committee and Office of the Finance Officer of Ateneo Gabay. The project provided selected school children with basic school supplies that helped them with their distance learning needs. Ateneo Gabay raised funds by selling t-shirts.
Gabay also established the Erya Hotline to serve as an alternative to face-to-face onsite immersion activity for the members of the organization. The activities of the organization took the form of tutorial sessions for students. The program provided learning opportunities for the children through the use of two modalities: Short Message Service (SMS) and Facebook Messenger.
Gabay also made available the Erya Portal to public school students. This was a semester-long project by the Education Operations Committee of Ateneo Gabay that sought to make learning resources more accessible to elementary school children by publishing these online. A public Facebook page where educational content was made available to students in a creative and interactive way was created. The page’s content was based on existing English and Math modules produced and assessed by the committee and took different formats such as posters and gifs.
Another initiative of the Gabay student organization was the Erya Online Academy. This year-long initiative under the Education Operations Committee of the organization aimed to produce quality interactive educational materials in the form of video animations. Every video was posted on Gabay’s Youtube channel and was reshared on Gabay’s Facebook page and Twitter account. In total, five videos were produced during the entire project run.
During the first semester of academic year 2021-2022, groups of Loyola Schools students also provided support to the students of HSES and JFBSHS through the National Service Training Program (NSTP). The Ateneo students engaged with the students over four sessions and came up with two comic books about the importance of nutrition in relation to education. NSTP in third year is tied up to Social Sciences 13: Economy, Society, and Sustainable Development. Through SocSc 13, all Loyola Schools students are required to do a service-learning initiative.
All of these activities supplemented the Food Packs Program of the Ateneo Center for Educational Development (ACED) in these schools which was in turn supported by the In-Visible Organisation.
