At the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines (JGFP) Inter-School Golf Championship which ran from October 16 to December 4, 2022, Ateneo Team 1 was the runaway champion of the five-leg tournament. The team was composed of Ateneo de Manila Grade School golfers led by Junior World veteran Race Manhit (4-Rajah Matanda), who took top honors in the boys’ division with a 7 over for 29 pts in the last leg. He had strong support from his teammates, including veteran Lujo Gomez (5-Yakan) with 22 points, and rookies Juanton Cruz (5-Ivatan) with 22 points and Javie Bautista (5-Ivatan) with 21 points.
In the Middle School (grades 4 to 6) Boys Individual Division, Race Manhit once again emerged as champion, and Lujo Gomez as 2nd runner up. In the Lower School Boys Individual Division, Luis Espinosa (3-Makiling) emerged as 1st runner up.
The two-year halt of competitive golf has prevented the boys from participating in various tournaments. However, this did not prevent the veteran players from continuously training in order to keep their game at a competitive level. The group was also fortunate to have been powered by new and upcoming players with great potential who will keep the championship spirit of the Ateneo de Manila Grade School Golf Team. The team’s success is made possible thanks to the supportive parents who made sure that the boys were always in good condition for any and all tournaments they participated in.
One big fight!
