The Ateneo de Manila University celebrates the Women of Ateneo and their contribution to the University in the last five decades with the theme "Innovation, Inclusivity and Equality." This March, we invite the University Community to celebrate our women leaders, innovators, and educators who continue to inspire future generations towards transformational change.
A good number of activities have been lined up by the different units, schools, offices and organizations to celebrate women and gender this month of March.
Interested parties may contact the organizations, offices and units directly for more details, as the events may still be updated and finalized.
Exhibits and Performances
When the Ateneo Opened its Doors to its first Women Students: an ongoing exhibit at the University Archives which features a visual history of the 50 years of co-education in Ateneo
Multiplying Grace: The Math and Art of Mari-Jo Ruiz: Presented by the Ateneo Library of Women’s Writings, the Management Engineering Program and John Gokongwei School of Management as well as the Department of Mathematics, and the Coastal City at Risk Philippines (CCAR-PH ADMU) this exhibit features the mathematical and artistic work of Dr. Mari-Jo Ruiz. The opening of the exhibit is on March 20, 2023 at 5:00 pm.
Women Saints: Mirrors of Christ, Models of the Church Exhibit: Presented by the ASHS CLE Subject area. This exhibit runs from March 6 – 17 at the ASHS.
Onsite Installations ALS Community Event: Ateneo Human Rights Center Urduja Women and Gender Desk installations features different laws, statistics, and infographics on the state of women and gender in the country today. This runs from March 6 – 31 at the Rockwell Campus.
Zsa Zsa Zaturnnah The Musical … Yun Lang will be staged at the Doreen Fernandez Blackbox theater from March 17 to April 2.
Onboarding and Training
INTACT Safe Spaces Module Plenary: The culminating activity for all freshie students taking the safe spaces module of INTACT is the plenary session on March 18. The different offices, student organizations and committees will participate in this event as resource speakers for our freshies.
Urduja Women and Gender Desk Volunteer Training: Paralegal training session among members of AHRC Urduja women and gender desk and other resident interns on how to handle reports of abuse, violence, or any form of discrimination against women. The training takes place on March 11.
TUGON Safe Spaces Initiative: The second part of the TUGON safe spaces initiative for their members will take place on March 24 with facilitators and guest speakers from the University Gender Hub.
"Siya, Siya, Tayo, Tayo: Workshops on Gender Inclusivity" The University Gender Hub with the Ateneo Blue Repertory will run workshops on Gender Inclusivity on March 28 from 1:00 – 5:00 pm.
Onboarding and GST for Faculty Pilot Course: The University Decorum and Investigation System conducts the pilot course for onboarding of Faculty utilizing both asynchronous (online) and onsite platforms. The onsite forum is scheduled for March 28.
Activities and Events
Purple Wednesday: Urduja adopts the Philippine Commission on Women’s initiative in wearing purple every Wednesday for the entire month of March to remind the Ateneo Law Community of the month-long celebration of Women’s Month. This activity runs from February 28 – March 29.
Kapihan at the Residence Halls: The Resident Advisers and the University Gender Hub held a Kapihan on the 1st of March towards more initiatives in the coming months.
Bouquet Making activity: The LS Sanggunian Commission Against Sexual Misconduct and Violence (CASMV) will have an bouquet making activity on March 10.
Constituency Check on Sexual and Reproductive Health: The LS SOSE Sanggunian will run a pilot constituency check on sexual and reproductive health on March 15.
Not Just the Punchline: A Two-Part Hannah Gadsby Watch Party will be hosted by the University Gender Hub from 5:00 – 6:30 pm on March 17 and 24. Please contact the University Gender Hub for more details.
Laya(g) an Onsite event is scheduled to be hosted by ASHS Lakambini which aims to discuss issues of identity and pride on March 18. A Safe Spaces conversation is also planned by Mayarai and Lakambini with the University Gender Hub at the end of the Month.
Women’s Month Culminating Activity organized by the Urduja Women and Gender Desk will be held at the Ateneo Law School on March 29.
Online releases and Events
Baka Naman Pwede Radyo Katipunan: the Institute of Philippine Culture on Radyo Katipunan hosted an episode on the SOGIE bill: Trials, Truths and Tribulations for its March 2 episode. Several follow up episodes on Co-education in Ateneo and Gender and Korean media are planned for the Baka Naman Pwede series for Women’s Month on March 16 and 30. Episodes are available online via the IPC FB page.
Online Video Presentations ALS Community Event by the Urduja women and gender desk is scheduled for March 3, 8 and 21. This online presentation features videos on thought provoking questions on women’s issues.
Online Information Dissemination Campaign on Anti-Sexual Harassment Act Filing, Safe Spaces Act Filing, Anti-Violence Against Women & Children Act Filing and VAWC Cases Flow Chart will be released by the URDUJA Women and Gender Desk from March 14 – March 23.
Online dissemination campaign on contributions of IP women to various human rights issues is a collaboration of the Katutubo Desk and Urduja Women and gender desk of the Ateneo Human Rights Center from March 13 -18.
Online Publications on Protection of the Girl-Child: A series of online releases on cross cutting issues experienced by the girl-child by the Urduja Women and Gender Desk and AKAP Desk of AHRC from March 20 -25.
Online publication on Women with Disabilities Day will be released by the Urduja women’s and gender desk on March 27. This is also an online information dissemination campaign on the plight of women with disabilities and the ways forward.
Flourishing Femmes : Online video releases by the LS Sanggunian Commission on Gender Equality on March 29 – 31.
External events
