Lance Abarquez grabs gold in PH round of Thai Math Olympiad

Ateneo de Manila Junior High School mathletes Lance Abarquez (La Storta/10-Gelabert), Xavier Algenio (Montserrat/10-Morse), Nathan Ballatan (La Storta/8-Dajani), Diego Bernardo (Montserrat/10-Maunoir) and Aegean Nakila (Montserrat/8-Ireland) earned medal awards in the Philippines Heat Round of the Thailand International Mathematical Olympiad (TIMO) 2022-2023, which was held online on September 30, 2022. Lance won gold in the senior secondary group division, while Xavier and Nathan earned silvers in the senior secondary group and secondary 2 divisions, respectively. Bagging bronzes were Diego and Aegean in the senior secondary group and secondary 2 divisions, respectively.
TIMO is an annual international competition jointly organized by the Olympiad Champion Education Centre (OCEC) from Hong Kong and the Thailand Mathematics Society. It is designed to stimulate and foster young people’s interest in learning mathematics, to strengthen their ability to think creatively, to widen their international perspective, and to promote the development of primary and secondary education and exchange of educational cultures throughout the global community. The regions/countries that participated in TIMO 2022-2023 are Australia, Azerbaijan, Brazil, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nigeria, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.
