The Ateneo School of Government, through the Ateneo Policy Center, organized a brown bag session last 20 April 2023 to discuss developments in a study titled, “Toward Increased and Stable Investments in National Security in the Philippines: An Analysis of Trends, Allocations, and Policy Options in Philippine Defense Spending.” The security forum was held online via Zoom and mainly attended by academe members and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
RADM. Rommel Jude Ong PN (Ret.), Senior Research Fellow at the Ateneo School of Government, Prof. Heidi Mendoza, Professor of Praxis at Ateneo School of Government, and Mr. Levi Guillermo Geganzo, Research Associate at the Ateneo Policy Center took the helm, centering the conversation on how the Philippine defense sector remains underfunded and whose resources stand at the mercy of the worsening effects of inflation, a looming recession, and geopolitical tensions in the succeeding years.
The forum also featured a brief remark from Dr. Philip Arnold P. Tuaño, Dean of the Ateneo School of Government, who moved the session to a close.
