Dr Liane Alampay awarded Article of the Year 2022 by American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children
22 May 2023

Congratulations to Dr Liane Peña Alampay and her collaborators on receiving the recognition of Article of the Year for 2022 from the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children (ASPAC) for their paper, "Change in caregivers' attitudes and use of corporal punishment following a legal ban: A multi-country longitudinal comparison", published in the journal Child Maltreatment. The paper examines, via a longitudinal natural experiment, the impact of a policy prohibiting the use of corporal punishment on the behaviors and attitudes of a sample of caregivers in Kenya, compared to caregivers in countries (including the Philippines) without a legal ban in the same period. The study presents implications on the role of policies in instigating behavior and attitude change.
Dr Alampay is Professor and full-time faculty in the Department of Psychology.
