ASOG convenes stakeholders, the NSC for a National Security Policy Forum

24 May 2023

Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions

NSCForum

Last 22 May 2023, the Ateneo School of Government in partnership with the National Security Council (NSC) organized a forum to discuss the National Security Policy (NSP) for 2023 to 2028. It is part of the NSC’s efforts to conduct a series of public consultations to solicit inputs from various stakeholders before the policy document is submitted to the President for approval and adoption.

The event was graced by scholars and practitioners expected to share their expertise from their respective fields—public health, education, human rights, climate change, survey research, security and defense, peace and conflict, community policing, military affairs, police affairs, diplomacy, cyber security, regional security, and national security—in hopes of aiding the NSC in reaching sustainability decisions.

Maria Cristina B. Exmundo, National Security Specialist V, Strategy Formulation and Development Branch of the National Security Council, presented the NSP 2023-2028 draft policy document. Dr. Kenneth Hartigan-Go, MD, MD (UK), Senior Research Fellow at the Ateneo Policy Center, and Dr. Imelda Deinla, Senior Research Fellow at the Ateneo Policy Center, took the lead in weighing in on the subject.

The forum also featured a message from Benjamin R. Madrigal, Jr., Deputy Director-General and Chief of Staff of the National Security Council, and remarks from Dr. Philip Arnold P. Tuaño, Dean of the Ateneo School of Government, and RADM. Rommel Jude Ong PN (Ret.), Professor of Praxis at the Ateneo School of Government.
