Jimbo Bernardo is SASMO’s #1 globally ranked mathlete for second consecutive year

Incoming Ateneo de Manila Senior High School Grade 12 mathletes Jimbo Bernardo (11-San Vitores) and Keean Tang (11-Torres) are gold medalists in the Grade 11 & 12 division of the Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad (SASMO), which was held online on May 15, 2021. Jimbo Bernardo also emerged as the Olympiad’s #1 globally ranked mathlete, the #1 ranked mathlete from the Philippines, and the #1 ranked mathlete from Ateneo de Manila Senior High School in SASMO’s Grade 11 & 12 division. Similarly, Keean Tang emerged as SASMO’s #8 globally ranked mathlete, the #3 ranked mathlete from the Philippines, and the #2 ranked mathlete from Ateneo de Manila Senior High School, also in the Olympiad’s Grade 11 & 12 division.

In 2020, Jimbo Bernardo was SASMO’s #1 globally ranked mathlete in its Grade 10 division, making his appearance at the top of its 2021 global ranking list his second consecutive one.

Created in 2006, SASMO is one of the largest math contests in Asia. It has expanded from 155 participants from Singapore in 2006 to more than 20,000 participants from 19 countries in SASMO 2016. With realistic and high standards, the SASMO aims to stretch the untapped thinking potential of participants by helping them improve their higher order thinking skills (HOTS).
