NEWS | Data alert over secret school loo cam 15 November 2019 UNITED KINGDOM –The National Education Union (NEU) and data rights activists raised concerns regarding the concealed cameras found in the toilets of Duncombe Primary School. The school admitted that they had installed the hidden cameras five years ago without informing the parents. A support group has been set up by parents demanding answers from the school. |

NEWS | Data of 3,237 exposed at St. Louis school after laptop, email are shared 4 November 2019 USA – The Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis was affected by a data breach that involved the personal data of 3,237 individuals, including health information of patients. NEWS | Department of Education criticized for secretly sharing children's data 12 November 2019 UNITED KINGDOM – United Kingdom’s privacy regulator criticized the Department for Education (DfE) for secretly sharing children’s data with the Home Office. Acting on a complaint, the Information Commissioner’s Office ruled that the DfE had failed to comply fully with its data protection obligations and may face regulatory action. NEWS | Rutgers students sent phishing emails claiming to be from associate vice president 3 November 2019 USA – Around 3,200 students from Rutgers University received malicious emails asking for their personal information in exchange for financial grants. NEWS | Ed-Tech firm Vedantu's data breach exposes personal data of 686k+ users 4 November 2019 INDIA – Education Technology firm Vedantu was hit by a data breach affecting about 686,899 users. Among the exposed data were the users’ names, email and IP addresses, and passwords. The firm is in the process of informing its customers. |

FEATURE | Doctors and nurses raise the alarm on Facebook's WhatsApp being used to transmit patient medical information 7 November 2019 USA – A website providing a guide to the US Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act is asking if the use of WhatsApp—one of the most widely used messaging apps today—by healthcare workers in a professional setting complies with the law.
